Report: Russia’s RusHydro may ink power bridge to Japan Oct-Nov
MOSCOW, Jul 17 (PRIME) -- Russian hydropower giant RusHydro plans to sign binding documents with Japan to construct a U.S. $6 billion Sakhalin-Hokkaido power bridge, CEO Yevgeny Dod said Friday in an interview to Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“We have several ambitious projects with Japan. The first is the Sakhalin-Hokkaido power bridge, a very interesting project. It is good for the development of the Sakhalin’s energy sector and for northern Japan, Hokkaido and the northern part of the Honshu Island,” he said.
“There are no delays, the project is being structured now. I hope that we will have binding documents in October–November.”
An electric power transmission cable between the Sakhalin and Hokkaido islands could supply power to northern Japanese regions, which have a certain deficit of power after the country suspended its nuclear power stations due to the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster.
